AlpTracks - Snow shoeing in Samoëns, Grand Massif, France

Come snow shoeing with us and discover the best of what Samoëns, the Haut Giffre valley and the Grand Massif have to offer in wintertime by going completely off piste with us! We’ll leave the hustle and bustle of the ski stations well behind, walking into untracked territory, looking for animal tracks and admiring frozen waterfalls.

Snow Shoeing is an alternative and complementary activity to skiing and snowboarding and offers a wilder experience that is both closer to nature and more environmentally friendly. It can be described as the winter version of hiking or trekking and can be anything from a relaxing stroll to a challenging summit assault.

We use snow shoes to avoid sinking through the powder as well as poles for balance. On offer are full day walks, half day walks, or speciality courses, such as igloo construction — particularily popular with children! — winter survival, or navigation.

New for the 2008/2009 season is that my friend Agnieszka Warszawska will take over as the English language snow shoeing guide of Samoëns and the Grand Massif! She is of Polish origin and fully fluent in English as well as in French. A fully qualified mountain leader (summer and winter) in the French system (Accompagnatrice en Montagne), and associated with the English-language Zig-Zag Ski School, she is in a perfect position to offer a safe and interesting trip, not just simply looking after your safety, but also sharing her passion and knowledge of the unique winter environment with you.
